#1000 Played 8/25/26 at The Keep!!

This pursuit officially started back in the winter of 2005. The thought of how many courses I had currently played turned into a several month retracement of my golf journey. I eventually came up with over 200 that I could verify from google map. 21 years later and another 800 courses I finished the pursuit on 8/25/26 at the McLemore Club on Lookout Mt in Georgia.
The Keep, which opened in 2024, is a very memorable course with five cliffside holes, numerous rock outcroppings, and beautiful vistas. The generous Champion Zoysia fairways were a treat to hit off and the main reason I broke 80. Every hole is distinct producing a great variety. The weather was perfect, sunny and mild with very little wind. I'm told that it is usually windy which much increases the difficulty. The resort also has another high level course, The Highlands, which is very different giving you two challenging experiences.
The staff were very welcoming and accomodating to put me in a tee time slot that allowed me to play at a relaxed pace and photograph the course. I completed the round in 4 1/2 hours. With cart you can expect to pay around $375 after 1:00. It is a walkable course and I would highly suggest walking as it is CartPathOnly. Caddies are available for an additional fee. Accomodations are available onsite, by Hilton, but at $450 per night I choose to stay 45 minutes away.

When and Where for #1000?

For the past several months I have been searching for a course worthy of this lifelong milestone. #500 was The Old Course. My dream course was Sand Hills designed by the brillant team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Unfortunately, that did not come to fruition, even though at one point I thought I had a chance. Thanks Mike for the effort.

So here I am still muddling around trying to make a decision from a short list of courses that will get me to the finish line. Hoping someone out there in the golf cyperspace comes forward that could get me on a super course in America? From the Public top 30 courses I have been to 27 of them. The top two remaining courses that are within a days drive, are The Keep and The Park. Having been to the beautiful McLemore Resort on previous occasions my choice will be the highly accalaimed The Keep. I hope to make it to #1000 later in the month of August.
